Department Of Textile Technology

The Textile Technology Department is a pioneering department of Park College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore. The department started in the year 2008 to cater to the textile industry’s need for skilled technical manpower. The department deals with various subjects related to natural & manmade fibers, yarn manufacturing, fabric manufacturing, chemical finishing of textiles, garments & fashion aspects, machine manufacturing, maintenance, quality and its evaluation, and value addition including engineering and analytical aspects of textiles. The growth of the department is by highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty, strong industry-institute interaction, and an alumni network. B.Tech-Textile Technology Programmes are accredited by NBA and NAAC A+. The state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops of the department are the outcome of strong industry-institute interaction.

The department has gotten grants from various Government agencies such as the Ministry of Textiles, DST, AICTE, etc. on account of research, infrastructural, and consultancy projects. Students and faculties of the department are availing the advantages of MOUs signed with reputed universities and industries. This enabled the department to achieve a 100% placement record since 2012. Over 700 alumni of the department are well-established nationally and internationally in various positions in production, quality, maintenance, marketing, and entrepreneurship. As a result of strong support and encouragement from the management, the name and fame of the Textile department has crossed the boundaries and it has reached across the globe.

DEPARTMENT LABORATORY DETAILS

Spinning Laboratory

The spinning Laboratory is well equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, which facilitates students and faculty members for research & study purposes. With the lab spinning machine, we can check the spinning performance of the yarn and research & develop much better yarn raw material, then put it into production. It improves the spinning efficiency. The Reiter Short Staple Yarn Laboratory is designed to help meet the needs of the textile industry in applied research. State-of-the-art machinery converts fibers less than 65 mm into spun yarn. Spinning capability includes compact, open-end, and air-jet spinning.

Weaving Laboratory

The laboratory is well equipped with conventional to latest weaving machines for imparting practical training. The weaving machines are utilized for product development, research, practical, etc. The weaving lab is equipped with a large number of Hand and power looms to provide individual looms to each student to practice design, drafting, denting, and sample development. The students also gain conceptual knowledge of different motions of weaving such as primary, secondary, and auxiliary motions.

Textile Testing and Quality Control Laboratory

The textile physics/testing laboratory is equipped with conventional as well as modern an instrument that covers a whole range of testing of textile materials. Textile testing helps to ensure that products meet the desired quality standards. It allows manufacturers and students to identify any defects or issues early on in the production process, which can be corrected before the product is released into the market. In the Textile Testing Lab, basic physical properties of textile materials such as the strength, abrasion resistance, flammability, wicking property, air permeability, and color fastness can be measured according to various ASTM and AATCC standards.

Textile Chemical Processing Laboratory

The laboratory is well-equipped for the chemical processing of all types of fiber and fabric. Textile Chemical Processing provides a complete basic understanding of the fabrics. Processing of all types of fabrics that are used in the Apparel or Home fashion Industry, Including Pre-treatments, Dyeing, Printing, and Finishing of fabrics, To develop knowledge of value addition on fabrics to Garments, Textile chemical processing’s role of chemistry in the textile industry is to develop a wide range of products that can be utilized for dyeing and printing clothes.

Knitting and Garment Construction Laboratory

The Knitting and Garment Manufacturing Laboratory provides practical knowledge for students to learn about the production of apparel from grey fabric. Garment production is a well-organized process that includes various steps. These are laying, marking, cutting, stitching, checking, finishing, pressing, and packaging. This is the process of transforming raw materials into final goods.

Students Industrial Visit and Internship Training

Industrial visits are usually the first point of interaction between a student and a live working industry. The students learn about the latest technology trends and make up their minds about their future jobs or areas of interesting textile and apparel manufacturing units. Educational tours to industries provide an opportunity for students to see and experience real workstations, plants, machines, systems, and assembly lines, and interact with highly trained and experienced personnel.

Students Placed in the leading Textile and Garment Industries

Students pursuing Textile Technology courses have a very rewarding career as the industry is not only limited to simply the manufacturing of textiles. Students can apply for the sector, such as fashion clothing, fiber manufacturing, garment coloring, and industrial machinery designing. The students were placed in the following Textile and Garment Industry in India and abroad.

  • M/s. Shahi Export Bangalore
  • M/s Arvind mills
  • M/s Vardhman Textile
  • M/s Gokaldas export
  • M/s Intimate Apparels wear Tirupur

  • M/s. Jay Jay Mills Tirupur
  • M/s. Dixy Garments Tirupur

Department Alumnus Students Chapters

The Department of Textile Technology has created an Alumni Committee to help in connecting the students with alumni who have similar interests thus giving a boost to the aspirations of students. Due to the continuous interactive nature, alumni are also well versed in the happenings in the institute.

Research and Development of the Department

The department staff and students were conducting an experimental research and development (R&D) comprised of creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge and to devise new applications of available knowledge. Textile Technology, research & development activities aim to manufacture products in a sustainable way, environmentally friendly, and to improve the lifetime of product optimization to increase the efficiency of processes. The staff and students published their research work in international peer-reviewed reputable journals about 125 research papers with good impact factors and indexed by SCIE, SCOPUS and Web of Science and got governmental research funded projects for improving the Research and Development Activities.
